Studio An-An (安安) is a Chicago-based design studio founded by Zixuan Luo and Bella Wu. The name "安" draws from a Chinese character, with its pictographic structure showing a woman under a roof, meaning the comfort
of a safe home. This is a fitting representation for the studio—two women creating spaces that resonate with a sense of belonging. Intrigued by simple ideas that spark curiosity, Studio An-An addresses contemporary challenges through installations and architectural projects. Their work has been recognized and exhibited internationally, including at the 2024 Tallinn Architecture Biennale, Seoul Center of Architecture and Urbanism, and Fundació Mies van der Rohe in Barcelona.
Zixuan Luo graduated from Harvard GSD with Distinction in 2023, earning a Master of Architecture Degree. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree from Nanjing University with the Outstanding Graduate Award. She has worked at Studio Gang Architects in Chicago, Höweler & Yoon Architecture in Boston and OPEN Architecture in Beijing, with experiences from small-scale constructions to large-scale institutional renovations. Her research projects on architectural retrofitting and adaptive reuse have been featured on platforms such as Dezeen, ArchDaily, and Fundació Mies van der Rohe.
Bella Wu graduated from Harvard GSD in 2023, earning a Master of Architecture Degree. Wu holds her Bachelor of Architectural Studies and Bachelor of Communications from Boston University. She worked in Neri & Hu Studio in Shanghai and ZAO/standardarchitecture in Beijing, with experiences on multiple cultural, industrial, and infrastructural renovation projects. Wu is interested in how architecture adapts to the changing built environment and engages with contemporary challenges around the world. Her past design and installation work has exhibited in Seoul Center of Architecture and Urbanism in 2019.
